Benzoin Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T101
The two main types of Benzoin are Siam (styrax tonkinensis) and Sumatra (styrax benzoin). The Sumatran type is much cheaper to produce, and coarser than the superior Siam quality. As Benzoin is a resinoid, it comes in solid form. Absolute Aromas has used an odourless diluent - benzyl benzoate - to liquefy it so that it is practical to use. Even diluted to 40%, it can still solidify easily and the bottle may be warmed in the hands before use.<p>
Benzoin is balsamic, warming and penetrating but gentle. It is useful for all the family, particularly during the winter months when it is ideal for use in steam inhalations as well as in baths or massage blends for dry or weather-worn skin. In a steam inhalation try blending with Eucalyptus (especially Eucalyptus Radiata for children), Tea Tree or Frankincense.<p>
As a treat for weather-worn skin, (gardeners, windsurfers, etc take note!) add a 2 drops each of Benzoin, Lavender and Orange to a jar of unfragranced hand cream or to 10ml of Sweet Almond oil and massage in thoroughly.

Bergamot Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T102
Expressed from the peel of the Bergamot fruit, the bergaptene content of this oil causes photosensitivity in sunlight. It is recommended for use in massage only by qualified aromatherapists but is ideal for the home oil burner/diffuser. Absolute Aromas also stocks a bergaptene-free Bergamot, known as Bergamot FCF, which is safer for use on the skin.<p>
A really special, rounded, citrus aroma, Bergamot is the perfect oil to help lift that Monday-morning feeling any day of the week! Try adding 20 drops to a bottle of unfragranced shower gel to give you get up and go in the mornings. <p>
Bergamot is strongly anti-septic, use in a burner to cleanse and uplift a room’s atmosphere. Experiment by blending with the other citrus oils , Cedarwood, Frankincense, Lavender or Clary Sage.

Price: £5.50

Quantity:

Bergamot FCF Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T103
Expressed from the peel of the Bergamot fruit, this Bergamot oil is "FCF" (Furocoumarin-free also known as bergaptene-free). The bergaptene content of the full version of this oil causes photosensitivity, ie, it should not be used on the skin before exposure to sunlight or UV sunbeds. Absolute Aromas has this Bergamot oil re-distilled in the UK to remove the waxes and terpenes, including bergaptene. After distillation, the oil is clear, compared with the deep green colour of the original oil and is safer to use on the skin. <p>
A really special, rounded, citrus aroma, Bergamot is the perfect oil to help lift that Monday-morning feeling any day of the week! Try adding 20 drops to a bottle of unfragranced shower gel to give you get up and go in the mornings.<p>
Bergamot is also strongly anti-septic, cleansing and astringent and is therefore ideal in skincare for oily or problem skin – try 2 drops each of Bergamot and Ylang Ylang in 10ml of Jojoba oil as an alternative to a moisturiser for spotty or problem skin.

Cedarwood Virginian Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T104
There are many types of cedarwood, and it is important to be clear which one is which. Virginian Cedarwood comes from the cypress family and the oil has an odour of freshly sawn wood. It is usually distilled from sawdust from the lumbermills of the USA and is used extensively in perfumery and soap manufacture. Mixed with Sri Lankan Ctironella, it was once a popular mosquito repellent, but has since been largely replaced by chemicals. Absolute Aromas Virginian Cedarwood is Virginian Light ("light" refers to the method of distillation).
<p>
One of the more masculine of essential oils, Cedarwood is popularly used in toiletries for men. Cedarwood’s anti-septic, deodorising and insect-repellent properties make it a very useful oil for burning or diffusing. Try blending with any of the citrus oils.
<p>
To help improve the condition of the scalp and encourage healthy hair, add 3 drops each of Cedarwood and Rosemary to 10ml of Coconut oil (or 5ml Coconut and 5ml Wheatgerm for very dry hair) and massage thoroughly into the scalp. Leave for as long as possible before shampooing out.
<p>
This oil should be used in moderation, never be used during pregnancy and it may cause skin irritation in those with sensitive skin.

Price: £3.65

Chamomile Roman Oil 5ml Ref: AA-T105
This oil is pale blue/green in colour. England is the top source for this wonderful, all-round soothing oil and Absolute Aromas has selected an oil of consistently high quality, grown and distilled in the UK. The small flower heads used are labour-intensive to grow and pick and yield very little essential oil, which explains the high price.
<p>
Along with Lavender, Roman Chamomile can be described as a panacea in aromatherapy and is one of the most useful and popular of all essentail oils. Being one of the gentler oils, it is safe for use on all the family, except during early pregnancy.
<p>
Try blending 4 drops of Chamomile and 4 drops of Lavender in 2 teaspoonfuls of Sunflower oil and adding to a cool bath for dry, sensitive skin, to encourage relaxation or ease general aches & pains.
<p>
Incorporate a steam facial into your weekly skincare routine. After cleansing, add 2 drops of Chamomile and 1 drop of Geranium to a bowl of just-boiled water, drape a towel across your head and shoulders, lean over the bowl and allow the vapours to penetrate your skin. Pat your face dry and apply a moisturiser.

Citronella Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T106
Citronella comes in two main types - Java and Ceylon. Absolute Aromas has introduced an oil from Sri Lanka, which is the only source of the Ceylon type, produced from the Lenabatu variety of citronella grass. Java-type is produced in many countries other than Indonesia, in particular China. Citronella is very widely used in household cleaning products and insecticides.
Citronella has a powerful lemon aroma which blends well with all citrus and woody oils. For a natural air freshener – add 3 drops of Citronella, 3 drops of Geranium and 2 drops of Pine to a clean plant spray filled with water, shake well and spray into the air. Avoid polished surfaces and pets!<p>
2 drops of Citronella, 2 drops of Cedarwood and 2 drops of Eucalyptus Citriodora in an oil burner or diffuser can help maintain an insect-free BBQ!<p>
Do not use Citronella during pregnancy or on those with sensitive skin.

Clary Sage Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T107
The best Clary Sage comes from Russia, which is by far the most important producer, although France often plays a significant role in distribution. Absolute Aromas has selected a very high quality oil. <p>
The pungent, herbaceous aroma of Clary Sage has a strongly uplifting yet soothing effect on the mind. In times of worry, try soaking in a warm bath containing 2 drops of Clary Sage, 2 drops of Geranium and 3 drops of Lavender, all diluted in a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil.<p>
An excellent relaxing massage oil can be made by blending 1 drop of Clary Sage, 1 drop of Roman Chamomile and 2 drops of Sandalwood in 10ml of Sweet Almond oil.<p>
It is important to remember that whilst essential oils are being used, it is wise not to drink alcohol. This is particularly applicable when using Clary Sage. Do not use Clary Sage during pregnancy – it is however an extremely useful oil during childbirth. Use in moderation at all times.

Cedarwood Atlas Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T127
This oil is entirely different from Virginian or Texan Cedarwoods. It comes from the Pine family, as opposed to the Cypress family, and is both chemically and olfactorily distinct. It is thought to be related to the Lebanon Cedars of the Eastern Mediterranean. The oil is distilled from the sawdust or stumps of trees which grow abundantly in the Atlas mountains of Morocco. As with Virginian Cedarwood, this oil should be used in moderation, never be used during pregnancy and it may cause skin irritation in those with sensitive skin.
<p>
One of the more masculine of essential oils, Cedarwood is popularly used in toiletries for men. For a light, aftershave facial oil add 1 drop of Cedarwood, 2 drops of Patchouli and 2 drops of Bergamot to 15ml of Jojoba oil.
<p>
<p>
Cedarwood’s anti-septic, deodorising and insect-repellent properties make it a very useful oil for burning or diffusing. Try blending with any of the citrus oils.

Basil Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T139
There are several different types of basil oil. Absolute Aromas has selected a "True Sweet Basil Oil" (Ocimum Basilicum) known as Linalol type. This is the safest and most pleasant of the Basil oils used in aromatherapy.
A stimulating and clearing oil, useful when concentration is needed or when feeling tired. Try adding 1 drop of Basil and 3 drops of Lemon to the water in an oil burner to help create the right atmosphere for hours of exam revision or paperwork! A blend of 1 drop each of Basil and Lavender in 10ml of Sweet Almond oil makes a good abdomen massage oil. Always massage the abdomen in a clockwise direction.
Do not use during pregnancy and only in moderation, especially by those with sensitive skin.

Chamomile German Oil 2ml Ref: AA-T140
The reference to "German" reflects the fact that this essential oil used to be distilled mostly in Germany. When fresh, this oil is deep blue, fairly viscous and has an intense sweetness that some people find unpleasant. It is extensively used in pharmaceutical products for its healing properties. As with Roman Chamomile, the high price reflects the low yield and labour-intensive processes involved in producing this oil.
<p>
German Chamomile is particularly effective when used with a compress, either hot or cold. If you are suffering from a 'buzzing' head after a stressful day, try adding 2 drops of German Chamomile and 1 drop of Lavender to a bowl of ice cold water. Dip a folded face flannel into the water, wring it out and place it across your forehead, lie back and relax. Alternatively, try using in a hot compress to ease general aches and pains.
<p>
German Chamomile is also an excellent addition to skincare products for dry or sensitive skin. Try 1 drop of German Chamomile and 3 drops of Mandarin in 10ml of Avocado oil as an alternative moisturiser.
<p>
Do not use German Chamomile at all during early pregnancy and only on specialist advice thereafter.

Cinnamon Leaf Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T141
This slightly pungent oil, distilled from the partly dried leaves and twigs of Cinnamomum Zeylanicum, is often used in perfumery for its warm, spicy, "oriental" notes. It has a high level of Eugenol (80-90%) which may cause skin irritation, especially in baths, and thus it is sold only for use in a burner or diffuser, unless otherwise advised by a qualified aromatherapist.
<p>
Cinnamon has a warming and spicy aroma which blends wonderfully with the citrus oils and other spices such as Clove or Nutmeg. To create the perfect atmosphere over the festive season blend 1 drop of Cinnamon Leaf, 1 drop of Clove Bud and 3 drops of Mandarin in a burner or diffuser.
<p>
To help lift your spirits if you are feeling under the weather try 1 drop of Cinnamon Leaf, 2 drops of Ylang Ylang and 2 drops of Sweet Orange.

Price: £4.09

Cajeput Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T163
Distilled from the leaves and twigs of a tree in the same family as Tea Tree and Niaouli, Cajeput is also strongly anti-septic and has a camphoraceous aroma.
Unlike its more common relatives, it has a high Cineol content which makes it skin-sensitising for some individuals. It should not therefore be used in the bath.<p>
Cajeput is a useful addition to steam inhalations to relieve symptoms of colds and other winter chills. Add six drops to a bowl of just-boiled water, cover the head with a towel and breathe normally for up to ten minutes.<p>
Cajeput is a common ingredient in pharmaceuticals and dentistry as an antiseptic. For problem skin, try 1 drop of Cajeput blended with 5ml (1 teaspoon) of Jojoba and apply twice daily (provided no skin irritation is experienced).

Chamomile Maroc Oil 5ml Ref: AA-T164
Although distantly related to the Roman and German Chamomiles, Chamomile Maroc is a different botanical species and has a lighter, sweeter aroma. The chemical composition of Chamomile Maroc is not similar to the more commonly used Roman and German varieties either but it can replace them where a wonderfully soothing, sweet aroma is required. (Some people find the pungent, earthy smell of the other Chamomiles off-putting.)<p>
Try putting 2 drops of Chamomile Maroc and 2 drops of Lavender in a burner or diffuser half an hour before bedtime to encourage a restful night’s sleep.
One drop of Chamomile Maroc and 1 drop of Mandarin may be added to 50ml of Sunflower oil to make a gentle massage blend for babies over six months. Alternatively, blend the same essential oils in 10ml of Sunflower oil and add to warm bathwater for a relaxing and moisturising evening bath for young children. Absolute Aromas recommends seeking professional advice before using essential oils on young children.<p>
Chamomile Maroc should not be used during the first two trimesters of pregnancy

Camphor Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T179
Extracted by distillation from the wood of this evergreen tree, there are then three extractions made from Camphor – only White Camphor is safe for aromatherapy use as it contains no Safrol (unlike Yellow and Brown Camphor). White Camphor should still, however, be treated with caution and used in moderation.<p>
Camphor is a traditional ingredient of mothballs and these can be made at home by adding 10 drops of White Camphor to a cotton wool ball and placing these in cupboards, drawers, etc. (They should be kept well out of the reach of children and pets.)<p>
To keep other airborne pests at bay, try adding 5 drops of Camphor to a burner or diffuser.

Angelica Root Oil 2ml Ref: AA-T190
Absolute Aromas Angelica is extracted from the root of the plant; an earthy, warming and sweet smell, Angelica is ideal for diffusing and is said to throw a cloak of spiritual protection around the user. (Try adding 3 drops of Angelica and 4 drops of Sweet Orange to a burner or diffuser.) For this reason, the root was widely used in history during times of epidemics, such as the plague. It was known by Christians as ‘the root of the Holy Ghost’ and was also linked with the archangel Michael. Its use as a flavouring for liqueurs such as Chartreuse and Benedictine indicate its ancient herbal digestive properties.
Angelica is an ideal oil for those who are feeling weak or under the weather. Try blending 3 drops of Angelica with 5 drops of Tea Tree in 10ml of Peach Kernel oil. Add the blend to a warm bath or massage into the skin daily – remember: do not expose the skin to daylight for 12 hours afterwards.

Quantity:

Bay Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T191
Also known as West Indian Bay, this Bay is not to be confused with Laurus Nobilis or Sweet Bay which is a different species.
The fruits of Bay are an ingredient of Allspice. The essential oil is extracted from the leaves of the plant but is also both warming and aromatic. West Indian Bay is the main ingredient of the old-fashioned Bay Rum hair tonic which was said to stimulate hair growth and help with greasy or problem hair. For a home-made hair tonic, try adding two or three drops of Bay to your usual shampoo or conditioner. Alternatively blend 3 drops with a teaspoon of vodka (to dilute), add to warm water and use as the final rinse after shampooing.
Bay has a high Eugenol content which makes it irritating to mucous membranes; it should not therefore be used in the bath and should be used in moderation and not on young children.
For a winter-warming aroma, try adding 2 drops of Bay, 1 drop of Cinnamon and 3 drops of Sweet Orange to a burner or diffuser.

Caraway Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T192
Caraway essential oil is extracted by distillation from the seeds, which are a familiar food spice. The herbal remedy was traditionally used for colic (especially in children) and the use of the seeds in breads, cheeses, etc. promotes its digestive properties.
<p>
Caraway is also anti-septic and is a common ingredient in toothpastes and mouthwashes. The German liqueur Kummel is also made from the seeds.
<p>
Caraway essential oil has a strong, sweet aroma which makes a deliciously warming bath – try blending 3 drops of Caraway with 2 drops of Jasmine in 10ml of Coconut oil. Add to warm bathwater for a reviving yet relaxing pre-dinner soak.

Price: £5.25

Cardomom Aromas 10ml Ref: AA-T193
Cardomon essential oil is distilled from the ripe fruit (seeds) of the herb. The dried seeds are extensively used in food in India but also in Europe and the Middle East. They have also been used as a traditional Chinese remedy for thousands of years for digestive and urinary complaints and Hippocrates promoted their use for various conditions.<p>
Cardomon essential oil has a sweet, spicy, warming aroma which blends well with citrus oils as well as other spice oils, Ylang Ylang, Rose and Neroli. It is often used as a fragrance in soaps and perfumes, as well as in pharmaceuticals for stomach complaints.<p>
Try adding 2 drops of Cardomon, 1 drop of Rose and 2 drops of Bergamot to a burner or diffuser to create an exotic, warming atmosphere. Or, blend 2 drops of Cardomon with 1 drop of Ylang Ylang and 2 drops of Sweet Orange in 10ml of Peach Kernel oil. Add to warm bathwater for a luxurious and seductive soak.

Price: £11.75

Carrot Seed Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T194
The essential oil is extracted by distillation from the seeds and is not to be confused with the fixed or carrier oil which is made by macerating the root in oil. Absolute Aromas also stocks a Carrot carrier oil which is macerated in Sesame.<p>
Carrot Seed essential oil is a rich amber colour and has a woody and earthy aroma which blends well with citrus and spice oils as well as Geranium and Cedarwood. All parts of the Carrot plant have been used as traditional medicines – the leaves are listed in the Herbal Pharmacopoeia as a diuretic and the seeds are a traditional Chinese remedy for stomach complaints.<p>
Carrot Seed essential oil makes an excellent addition to skincare products, particularly for dry or mature skin. As an alternative moisturiser, try blending 2 drops of Carrot Seed with 2 drops of Geranium in 10ml of Evening Primrose and apply daily.

Price: £9.75

Celery Seed Oil 10ml Ref: AA-T195
The essential oil is extracted by distillation from the seeds of this familiar plant. Celery seed is commonly used as a spice in cooking and all parts of the plant have traditionally been used medicinally. It is listed in the Herbal Pharmacopoeia as a remedy for arthritis.<p>
Celery Seed essential oil has a strong, sweet aroma which blends well with Coriander and other spice oils as well as with Lavender. <p>
To stimulate and refresh, try adding 10 drops of Celery Seed and 8 drops of Lavender to a bottle of unfragranced shower gel – shake well before use. Or blend 2 drops of Celery Seed with 3 drops of Lavender in 10ml of Coconut oil and add to warm bathwater for a reviving pre-dinner soak.<p>
Thought to be stimulating to the uterus, Celery Seed should not be used at any time during pregnancy.
